The opening

Thursday, September 18th

On Thursday evening, ART LIGHT DISTRICT kicks off in the Oberhafen train depot with a special opening reception. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and at 7:00 p.m. the powerful sounds of Japanese Tengu Odaiko drums will begin the evening. After a brief welcome from the organizers, the program continues with a captivating Capoeira performance.

The opening is above all a moment to come together – artists and guests meet, talk to each other and enjoy the start of four days full of art and culture.

O-DAIKO - Japanese drums

The O-Daiko, Japanese for "big drum," is the most powerful-sounding of the Japanese Taiko drums. In Japan, it can measure over three meters in diameter – Tengu Daiko, Hamburg's oldest Taiko group, owns one with a diameter of 106 cm. Played by two "Tengus," it makes any room vibrate. Tengu Daiko has been performing since 2001 and also offers workshops and courses for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the rhythm.
